Colombian Treasure (by Dictador) is a sugar-cane based gin distilled five times in Colombia. It is matured for ~35 weeks in ex-rum oak barrels (previously used for Dictador rums), which imparts its signature aged character. The gin includes a secret mix of botanicals, among which “Limon Mandarino” (a hybrid citrus) plays a central role, alongside juniper, citrus peels, spices and wood influence. The combination of barrel aging, sugar cane spirit base, and exotic citrus gives it a unique profile among aged gins.
Tasting Notes:
-
Appearance: Light amber-gold (aged in oak) with a bright sheen.
-
Aroma: Tangerine and lemon citrus upfront; herbal and minty notes (spearmint), plus sweetness from berries, with warm oak and subtle smoky/toffee notes
-
Palate: Balanced-sweet citrus (mandarin/lemon), oak-induced vanilla/toffee undertones; spiciness (pepper), herbal lift, and smooth texture.
-
Finish: Warm, lingering; caramel, wood spice, a citrus echo, fairly smooth with residual oak influence.
-
ABV: 43%
Serving Suggestions:
- Best served neat or over a large ice cube to appreciate the oak and citrus layers.
- Also works very well in a high-end Gin & Tonic: use a premium tonic, garnish with a citrus twist (mandarin or orange peel) to highlight its citrus botanicals.
- Can be used in cocktails where aged spirits shine (e.g. aged gin Negroni, gin old-fashioned) to leverage its woody and sweet-citrus profile.
- Excellent as a sipping gin after dinner.
