Porto Cruz Tawny Port is a fortified wine from the Douro Valley in Portugal, made by Porto Cruz. It is produced from traditional Douro red grape varieties, fortified by adding grape brandy during fermentation, and then aged in oak barrels for about three years. The barrel aging gives it extra depth: the wood influence adds complexity, softens the tannins, and introduces subtle dried fruit and nutty character. It carries about 19% ABV.
Tasting Notes:
Appearance: Reddish-amber / amber-red with light copper glints; slight tawny shift from the oak aging.
Aroma: Generous notes of red berries (strawberry, raspberry), combined with dried fruit undertones and mild oak (wood, vanilla); some balsamic hints.
Palate: Sweet-fruited entry with red berry compote, balanced acidity, smooth texture; oak adds subtle dry fruit and mild spice.
Finish: Pleasant and fairly long, with lingering sweet fruit, gentle oak influence, and a clean but rich end.
ABV: ~ 19%
Serving Suggestions: Best enjoyed slightly chilled, around 10-12 °C. Works well as a dessert wine, especially with caramel or vanilla-based sweets, almond and nut desserts, or creamy cheeses. Also nice as an aperitif when paired with melon & ham or light cured meats. Good with a splash of ice or mixed into a port cocktail for flavor and depth.
