Reschke R-Series Shiraz is a red wine from the Limestone Coast region of South Australia, produced by Reschke Wines. The fruit for this Shiraz comes from multiple vineyards in the area, including Robe, Wrattonbully, Coonawarra and Padthaway, each contributing its unique terroir. Winemaking involves fermentation in separate batches with skin contact of about 10-18 days depending on the parcel, followed by maturation in both French and American oak hogsheads to add complexity without overwhelming the fruit. It’s designed to offer both immediate appeal and the capacity to age well over 5-10 years. The ABV is around 14.5%.
Tasting Notes:
- Appearance: Deep purple / magenta with rich saturation; dark core with some rim variance
- Aroma: Black cherries, blackberry compote, plum, baking chocolate, dark mocha, a touch of cracked pepper and spice; some oak-derived vanilla and cedar tones
- Palate: Full bodied, with juicy dark fruit at the forefront; plum and blackberry, plus dark chocolate and mocha; fine-grained tannins providing structure; hints of savory/herbal elements (like bay leaf, dried herbs) and spice; good acidity giving lift
- Finish: Long and warming; dark fruit lingers, oak spice (vanilla, chocolate) persists; tannins become more refined toward the end, leaving a clean but rich aftertaste
- ABV: ~ 14.5%
Serving Suggestions:
Serve at about 16-18 °C; decanting (30 min or so) helps open up aromas for younger vintages. Pairs excellently with grilled red meats (steak, lamb), hearty stews, barbecued sausages with spice rubs, or dishes with char or smoke. Also works well with strong cheeses or dark chocolate desserts.
