Spier Signature Merlot is a South African red wine (100% Merlot) from the Western Cape. The grapes are grown on mature vineyards, vinified partly in French oak (about 20%) and partly in stainless steel with French oak staves, to balance oak influence with fresh fruit character. Medium-bodied and approachable, it’s intended for versatile pairing and everyday enjoyment.
Tasting Notes:
- Appearance: Rich, regal red colour with good clarity and medium depth.
- Aroma: Ripe red and black berries (plums, cherries, pomegranate), with subtle mint or eucalyptus undertones.
- Palate: Juicy fruit core, soft tannins, balanced by bright acidity; gentle oak notes adding spice and structure.
- Finish: Soft, smooth, with lingering berry flavour and gentle freshness, not overly heavy.
- ABV: ~14%
Serving Suggestions: Serve at about 16-18 °C. Pairs nicely with lamb casseroles, tomato-based pastas, roasted or grilled meats, vegetarian dishes with rich sauces. Also great with pizza, lasagne or “braai” style meals.
