Stonehaven Cabernet Sauvignon is a premium red wine from the Coonawarra region of South Australia. Made by Stonehaven Wines, the Reserve / Limited‐Release versions are sourced from 40-year-old vines and spend about 18 months in French oak hogsheads. It displays both intense varietal fruit and oak aging in balance, aimed at both drinking now or cellaring.
Tasting Notes:
-
Appearance: Inky dark purple, deep colour with density, good legs in the glass.
-
Aroma: Blackberries, mulberries and cassis; touches of mint, licorice, chocolate, and warm beef stock; oak spice and cedar too.
-
Palate: Rich concentrated dark fruit (blackberry, black cherry), firm but fine tannins; oak provides vanilla, cedar, a bit of tobacco or leather; balanced acidity and structural grip.
-
Finish: Long, elegant; fruit lingers alongside oak spice, with a subtle herbal/minty note; smooth yet with backbone for aging.
-
ABV: 14.5%
Serving Suggestions: Serve at ~16-18 °C. Decanting helps open up finer aromatics. Excellent with grilled or roasted red meats (beef, lamb), hearty stews, game, or rich dishes with earthy, umami flavours. Also pairs well with aged hard cheeses. Let it age for 5-10 years for more complexity.
