Uganda Waragi is a clear spirit classified as gin, produced by Uganda Breweries Limited in Uganda. First commercially made in 1965, it derives its name from “war gin” (a colonial term for local gin) and is now known as “The Spirit of Uganda.” It is made using a blend of botanicals including lime peel, nutmeg, and cassia bark, among others. Available in various flavored versions (e.g. pineapple, coconut, lemon & ginger) in addition to the classic unflavoured form. The standard commercial version is 40% ABV in a 750 ml glass bottle.

-

-
Palate: Bold and sharp; citrus forward, spicy undertones, with a clean gin-style botanical backbone; some heat from the alcohol.
-
Finish: Warming and crisp; moderately long with lingering botanical spice and mild citrus bitterness.
-
ABV: 40%
Serving Suggestions:
- Best served neat, or on the rocks to soften the alcohol intensity.
- Also works well with mixers: soda water, tonic, or citrus juices (especially lime or lemon).
- Flavoured versions (like pineapple or coconut) pair nicely with tropical mixers, fruit soda or even as part of fruity-gin cocktails.
- Because of its popular positioning and affordability, it’s often used in social and casual settings, shared during gatherings or with local food.
